Mac’s are awesome

Read the title.  Read it again.

I love my Macbook and wish I could afford a Macbook Pro and Mac Pro for home.

I’ve started playing with iWeb a little bit so a blog has been set up there (as well as an automatically updating calendar via iCal, which is completely sweet!)

That’s right….firefox rocks!

Overhauling site

April 4 2008 8:30 am

I decided to scrap the design of TheAndrew.net. It’s time for a redesign. I don’t know when it’ll happen…but it’s already started with the crummy version that’s up right now.

Hopefully this weekend I’ll have a little bit of time to spruce it up a little bit, though I haven’t quite figured out what it should be used for. My awesomeness can’t be completely displayed on the web :)

Thank you Starbucks!!!!

Engadget - Desktop Computers in Starbucks

I seriously laughed out loud when I saw one of the computers loading Windows 95!
Actually, all the pranks these guys do are hilarious. If you check out their website they have another great prank in which they (about 50 guys) go into a Abercrombie & Fitch shirtless. [In that store there is a shirtless male model that greets everyone at the door, along with huge posters of shirtless men, and a statue of a shirtless man] Hilarious!

In unrelated news, I finished John Grisham’s new book….and it was awesome!

Good stuff

February 13 2008 3:16 pm

I’m extremely happy I was finally able to set up a ftp server from home.

Now the only problem is that when I’m at school the files don’t download to my computer very quick.  I’ve got the fastest connection Mediacom offers, 1mb upload speed…but I only got a portion of that the few times I’ve tried transferring files from home to here via FTP.

In other news, it’s Wednesday.  That means it’s mens rec day!
I need it because about half my dress pants don’t fit around the waist any more without me having to stretch the buttons to their limits…and maybe past.

And in other other news, I was able to jailbreak my iPhone to version 1.1.3.  I’ve also modified a bunch of the icons, so it’s looking pretty sweet!

RIP old computer….welcome to the family new computer

January 28 2008 9:29 am

I went upstairs to check on my computer yesterday around 11am when I noticed that it was off…as was every thing else in the room.  Apparently the power supply went kaput…so I was faced with the delima to spend $100+ on a new power supply on an old computer or buy a new computer for ~$400.

I chose the latter.  Best Buy had a great deal on an Acer desktop machine, a computer that is normally $800 for $490.  They sold out earlier in the day, so I bought the display and saved about $50 in the process.

3gb DDR2 ram
500gb SATA hard drive (and 3 additional SATA ports!!!!)
Intel  Core 2 Duo processor
Built in firewire connector in the front (helpful when transferring video)
Windows Vista Premium (which to me is a good thing…I’m liking Vista on the laptop…and it’s about time to get it on a desktop of mine)

Hopefully I’ll be able to sell my old Lian-Li case for ~$80 and other various parts for whatever price I can get and make back a decent portion of the cost of the new beast.

Macbook Air, TV, Dual-tuner

January 16 2008 9:44 am

What do these three things have in common?

Awesomeness.

If I had 3 grand to throw around I’d love to have a MacBook Air.  But obviously I don’t.  And I’d put that 3 grand towards a new vehicle before a laptop anyway.

One Tree Hill is back on (not sure if I like them fast forwarding 4 years, but I’ll deal), as is Prison Break and The Wire.  Ordered HBO last week so that I could watch The Wire (and having HBO On Demand is nice too)…only cost $4 extra a month, not bad for premium channels.

Also went ahead and ordered a DVR to put in the bedroom, so the movie channels could be watched in there.  It has a dual-tuner in it, which is awesome!  Now I’ve got to figure out how much a TiVo dual tuner unit costs and if it can be upgraded like my current Tivo unit is.

Today is an early release day here at school….gotta love Wednesdays!

Freshman basketball team played Moberly last Saturday.  The first time we played them (in late November) we got beat by 20-something.  This time we won in overtime.  We shot 35 free throws!  (This is a good thing…we were being aggressive)

Hopefully we can keep up the good defense this coming weekend and get the shots to fall.

Want to keep your bookmarks organized?

July 30 2007 11:17 am

Huge kudos go out to the foxmarks crew with the recent update.

If you’re using Firefox (and you should), you should check out a number of plugins including the foxmarks plugin.

Reasons I use foxmarks include, but are not limited to:
1. It takes seconds to sync bookmarks
2. They just updated the online service so if you don’t feel like installing a plugin they offer an awesome, easy to use interface to organize your bookmarks at my.foxmarks.com
3. Other bookmarking sites/programs pretty much suck. I’ve tried 3 or 4 other bookmarking sites before coming across foxmarks and none of them comes close to foxmarks.

Other recommended plugins:

  • Web Developer (if you like to tinker with web sites)
  • FoxyTunes (adjust your music program of choice through your browser)
  • StumbleUpon (Finds sites based on your interests, will show you some neat sites you’d never find otherwise.  )
  • PDF Download (Keep .pdf files from loading into your browser without your permission.  Especially useful for dial-up users!)
  • Adblock Plus (Firefox does a good job blocking pop-up ads, but this added protection is nice)
  • IE Tab (for the stupid, stupid, stupid sites that only work with Internet Explorer)
  • FireFTP (easy way to transfer files to server.  Not the best interface, but it’s free :)
  • ImageZoom (nice added ability to zoom in or out on images)

A June/July Weekend

July 2 2007 9:09 am

In honor of going back to work day, otherwise known as Monday, I present to you: What I did this weekend.

Saturday

  • Went to school and picked up my room key and magnetic card (card gets me into the building)
  • Spent ~5 hours messing with stuff in my classroom
  • Grabbed a laptop (business dept. bought laptops a few years ago, so one is mine. Should have a new iPAQ but it’s MIA as of this posting)
  • The rest of the day was spent at a wedding/reception

Sunday

  • Went to church for the first time in a while
  • Took Em to see my classroom
  • Went to StL with Em for a birthday dinner with her family.

That’s about it.

Happy 25th birthday Em!
